Abigail Ryan, Ph.D. ABPP-CN, is a seasoned neuropsychologist at NCMA with a deep commitment to enhancing the lives of individuals facing cognitive challenges. Her expertise encompasses a broad spectrum, including neurodevelopmental disorders, traumatic brain injury, stroke, geriatric cognitive disorders, neuro-oncology, movement disorders, epilepsy, and more.
Dr. Ryan’s journey into neuropsychology began with a strong academic foundation, earning a Doctor of Philosophy from Marquette University. She showed an early dedication to understanding the complexities of cognitive disorders. Dr. Ryan completed her predoctoral internship at the VA-Pacific Islands Health Care System in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she learned the importance of recognizing cultural diversity and how identity factors contribute to cognition and functioning.
With a solid academic background, Dr. Ryan embarked on her clinical career, undertaking a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology at Baylor Scott & White Healthcare in Temple, Texas. Under the guidance of esteemed mentors, she honed her skills in neuropsychological assessment across a diverse range of patient concerns and clinical settings. Dr. Ryan also participated in developing a pediatric neuropsychology service while on fellowship, where she expanded her clinic expertise to pediatric populations.
Dr. Ryan’s professional journey continued to flourish with key roles at institutions such as Mercy Health Muskegon in Muskegon, Michigan, where she helped establish an outpatient neuropsychology clinic, and contributed as a Core Faculty Member for the hospital’s geriatrics fellowship. At the University of Vermont Medical Center, Dr. Ryan has continued to be involved in training by establishing an assessment rotation for their psychology internship.
Dr. Ryan’s dedication to advancing the field is evident in her active involvement in professional organizations. She has been a member of the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology, the International Neuropsychological Society, and the National Academy of Neuropsychology, reflecting her commitment to staying at the forefront of her field.
In addition to her clinical and academic achievements, Dr. Ryan has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and delivered professional presentations at conferences, showcasing her commitment to the dissemination of knowledge within her field.
